Minerva SUCKS, Fix It!

July 30th is registration day! I'm sure some of you are already familiar with Minerva and how awful it is to use, and if not You'll soon find out just how difficult McGill makes it for you to register by forcing you to use Minerva.

It usually goes something like this:
Go through a bunch of menus,
Register a course

Go through a bunch of menus,
Register a course

Now the two courses conflict - go through a bunch more menus, fix the conflict, register the two courses.

Two or three hours later you have your courses registered. THANKS McGill!

I was so frustrated with that BS that I made a free online program to automate the whole process, so I figure I should let you first years know. It basically lets you quickly make schedules without course conflicts and experiment with courses you might want to take, seeing how any change affects your week. You can then register your schedule quickly by using the CRN codes provided, beat the early registration traffic, and come out with a perfect schedule.

Try it out: Smart Minerva

If you find this helpful, please help out your mates by joining the facebook group (there's a link on the main page), and inviting whoever might get some use out of it. I've had a good response from the student body, but I know I haven't reached those not yet in McGill.

I would hate to see you guys register awful schedules because McGill makes this process so painful that you quit before you're satisfied with your classes.

If you have any comments or suggestions, or any problems you have using the system, let me know here, I'll check back.

All the best,

Alex

Minerva may be annoying to register for courses, but for all other things it's pretty neat, powerful and relatively simple (depending on what you need to do). I wish the University of Waterloo's system was closer to it (submitting grades was so much easier using Minerva)...
