10 must do's before attending USMMA?

What are the top 10 must do things before attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy? It is my understanding, simple priviliges in the civilian life do not exist at the academy or at least for your plebe year. So it can be things such as enjoying a candy bar, before reporting in, or listening to the radio. What are 10 things that the incoming class should do before they report on July 10th? Feel free to post what you think are the 10 most important things to do before attending:

1. spend as much time with your parents and siblings as you can. it's not just hard on you, they take quite a hit as well
2. if you don't already know how, learn how to do laundry and iron
3. take lots and lots of pictures of friends, family, fun times.
4. avoid arguments if at all possible, leave home on good terms with as many people as possible
5. work out
6. do something crazy
7. if you're single, go on at least one date with someone, nothing serious, but go and have a fun night on the town
8. laugh as much as you can
9. enjoy your last weeks of childhood. once you get to KP, going home won't be the same.
10. don't stress out! have fun, and don't leave anything to regret!

If you are close to San Francisco or Baltimore, visit one of the two remaining active Liberty Ships. They are the raison d'être for Kings Point. Its worth the trip.

SS John Brown In Baltimore: Project Liberty Ship

S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien in San Francisco: National Liberty Ship Memorial -- S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien

Nice list--

I would add....Get used to listening to other people. You will be expected to listen to ALOT of people once at KP.

Learn time management....nuf said!

Develop study habits.

Understand what CLEAN means.

Appreciate your mom's cooking, grandparent's doating and younger siblings' unconditional love....you will miss them.

Learn how to sew on a button or label.

Learn how to write a letter.

Remember, when you wear the uniform, you are representing America. Wear it with pride and humility.

Good Luck
