| EOY & Graduation Weekend The regimental calendar indicates that '09,10&11 take exams 6/7-6/12 and graduation weekend begins 6/13. When are underclassmen given liberty? i.e., are they to stay graduation weekend through to commencement? How has this worked in the past? |

| Thanks Oliver. Clarification for planning purposes: My calendar says graduation is Monday, not Tuesday. But from what you pulled above, it appears they can't leave until Tuesday?
Also, do all of the classes attend the graduation ball on Saturday night? |

| Oliver Drab, not sure what year you are, but in the past releasing the underclassmen early has been at the discretion of the CO (regardless of what the reg calendar said/says). It usually had to do with cleaning the barracks and rooms. I remember my Plebe year my company was released 1000 Tuesday morning while others were released Monday afternoon.
MMAMom2011, if your son is working indoc, he will most likely be permitted to leave after his last final. |

| He may also leave early if he's B Split and his ATR determines this would be better based on the port schedule of his assigned ship. |

| I can't answer about THIS year's graduation speaker, but yes, Sen John McCain was 2007's Keynote Speaker. Each time I look at my son's graduation picture of his shaking hands with Sen McCain, I smile. Who would have guessed what the last 12 months have brought, in terms of the Primaries. A special photo, indeed.

| The graduation speaker this year, or so I've heard, will be ADM James G. Stavridis, Commander USSOUTHCOM.
I've heard good things about him. US Navy Biographies - ADMIRAL JAMES G. STAVRIDIS |

| I had the privilege of briefing Adm. Stavridis at a workshop of all the senior military environmental officers and officials in his AOR. He is remarkably insightful, very well versed, and multi lingual. He is generally considered one of the intellectually gifted and effective officers in the entire US military. At 53 he’s the youngest four-star in all the services. |

| June Ball What is the June Ball like? Where does it take place? Is it dinner & dancing? How does the night play out? Are formal photos taken? Thanks for any insight. |

| June Ball is for all classes. It is held on Saturday evening of graduation weekend, on the waterfront, in the area between the sailing center and the pool. A dance floor is put down, paper lanterns are strung around and a band plays. While the music is contemporary, the visual image is a throwback to an earlier time: it looks like a WWII movie with all the young officers in their choker whites and their ladies in elegant dresses and hairdos dancing at the O club in Hawaii or some other exotic locale.
Generally the midshipmen take their dates out to dinner at a restaurant before going to the dance. |
