Loa

My son received an LOA in the mail yesterday. We are so excited. This was a little unexpected to get notification so soon. It says "contingent upon a nomination and continued excellent work in school". He is sending copies of the letter to all his MOC's. And we begin the wait again.

Each Member of Congress handles their nominations differently.

Each Member of Congress handles their nominations differently. If you haven’t already, you should contact your congressman ASAP. DO NOT WAIT FOR THEM TO CONTACT YOU. In some districts, the competition for a nomination is very difficult with deadlines and cutoffs. In other districts it is very easy.
My Mid is from a very competitive district, and each slot is filled after a difficult interview (5 person panel-all officers or retired officers) and a complete review of a cadets academic and personal history (yes school s/references are called and transcripts ordered and read). In addition, in his district, a pre-screening process knocks out a majority of the applications before they are even given an interview or consideration.
One of his friends, however, received her nomination simply by contacting her congressman and filling out a piece of paper. She was the only one that applied from the district.
It is different for everyone and varies by your location.
Good luck and congratulations!
