Yes..it is true...for the second time in three years a contractor hit the Academy flagpole..it is bent..bad...new eagle flew the coop too!!!

I hope the contractor had insurance. The pole needed a paint job. Maybe we can get a new flag pole out of this! LOL

Yep the pole needs to be replaced. The top 10-20 feet started out slightly bent this morning and it's been getting worse as the day progresses.

they've now got it flagged off so you aren't in the drop zone... i'll be surprised if it doesn't break off by morning.

How thoughtful of this contractor to donate and install a new electroplated, made in America flagpole complete with finial delivered before Christmas.

Seems rather unlikely it'll get done by christmas let alone graduation...besides where are we going to find another flag pole donated by Adolf Hitler?

Check your plebe knowledge 2009- "donated" only in the same sense as the USCGA Eagle was "donated" to the Coast Guard. More of a war prize.....

If it is indeed true that it needs to be replaced, this sux - they absolutely need to fully replace the world's tallest unguyed flagpole, made of hydrolically (sp?) sway steel... (I know I didn't say that exactly right but after 31 years my plebe knowledge is a bit rusty..) Seriously I do hope the responsible contractor has the proper insurance end the contract between them and the Academy ensured they were properly insured and bonded so the accidental destruction of this key piece of USMMA tradition and history can be rectified to the maximum extent possible and a new similar flagpole of at least the same height replaces it. Kings Point is one of the few places a full Navy #1 can be flown properly...

They Academy should post something on the official web site about this. Why is it we find out about it only on College Confidential and Face Book? Hint, hint, KP.

Under "Campus new" on the KP web site, the latest news story is dated 03/24/2007 and it is about Admiral Cosgrif assuminfg command in the Middle East. You mean to tell me that there has been no new news since then? Get the Mids to take over the KP web site because I bet they could do a better job than this. I heard that there was a flag pole down....

Word is the flagpole will be pulled next week for inspection and repair. Unfortunately I'll be underway and won't get to see it......
