I will be attending Michigan in the fall and will be part of LSA. I do not know what I am going to major in yet, but I was wondering what courses LSA requires, regardless of degree.

Also, what courses are usually required for the biological sciences, or chemistry, or psychology?

Any information would be great!

LSA requires you take 7 credits in each the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences. It also requires you take a course in race and ehnicity, quantitative reasoning, writing, and have 4th-semester foreign language proficiency. You must also take an additional 3 credits in 3 of 6 different areas (nat sci, soc sci, humanities, creative expression, interdisciplinary, math/symbolic analysis). The prereqs for the majors you listed:

Biology: BIOLOGY 162; CHEM 210, 211, 215, 216; MATH 115, 116; PHYSICS 140, 141, 240, 241

Psychology: PSYCH 111, STATS 350, and nothing else is completely mandatory. A lot of options with this one.

Chemistry: CHEM 210, 211, 215, 216, 241, 242, 260; PHYSICS 140, 141, 240, 241; MATH 115, 116, 215, 216.

Biochemistry: same as bio, but MATH 215 also required.

I forgot to mention in my earlier message that I will be majoring in History and wanted to know what are the required courses I have to take. Do I need to take math?

History... Good choice. I am also planning to declare history as my major (except I'll be a sophomore in the fall and with Spanish as my minor). You'll still need to complete all of LSA's requriements for undergrads (such as the foreign language requirement, distribution, and whatnot) as well as one of the prereq. sequences for history. These are two-course sequences that one has to complete in order to declare history as a major. One only needs to complete one of these sequences so no worries.

PS: Specking of the Spanish minor... Yes, it has been suspended for a three year period for incoming students. (I'm still allowed to have it because I was enrolled at Michigan before this ruling was made. I don't know how they made this distinction, but I'm not complaining.) Apparently, too many students were declaring this language as their minor, and people with a Spanish major were not getting their spaces in upper level courses causing the suspension. The ruling is currently just on a trial basis, and the Spanish MINOR is the only section affected. The major is still in tact. FYI...
