HORRIBLE Financial Aid Package

I think I may have received one of the worst financial aid packages ever.

My EFC through FAFSA said I would be expected to pay approximately $20,000 per year. That does not include the fact that my parents pay for my brother's private school tuition (which is accounted for in the CSS).

Since I am out of state, the tuition is like $45,000 per year or so with room and board. My financial aid package was $3500/year in LOANS.

Does anyone know if this can be argued, since I have received full scholarships to other colleges? Or if more merit based scholarships will be added to it sometime in the near future?

I was told that the school('s) you are accepted at send out merit award decisions by April 1st. It sounds like you received the Financial Aid part. Good Luck, I hope you get great news on April 1st!

hmmm.... I got my financial package estimate today and I am out of state. Did you get any Michigan grants or federal grants/loans? I already have a sister in college and I also have another sister going to college at the same time as me, which is probably accounted for in my financial aid information.

With academic grant, michigan grant, fed loans, and fed grants, I got a total of about 34,000, subtracted from 43,000. So I would have to pay about 9,000.

I don't know if there are any future merit scholarships but either there are still more offers to be made or your parents' income is too high.

Very lucky.

The University of Michigan has very few merit only scholarships for out of state students. The majority of our financial aid is need based. Generally we are unable to meet the total need of out of state students as we are a state supported University. Unfortunately you fit into this category.

Oh well, I guess UMich is no longer an option for me for college.
