Summer Language Program Competitiveness

I am very interested in taking the intensive 7-week French immersion at Middlebury's summer language program next summer. I know that the summer programs are completely separate from the regular college, but are the summer language programs extremely competitive? If so, about how competitive, and what are they looking for? Thank you in advance!

Dear johns37s,

I hope you will consider coming to Middlebury as a student in the 7 week intensive summer French immersion program. Please realize that while the Middlebury Language Schools are run in the summer, they are an integrated part of Middlebury College, with valuable input from year-round faculty and departments. I don't think I would use the word competitive to describe the summer schools programs; I would rather say intense and challenging within an immersive environment that is extremely nurturing and supportive. This explains why after 7 demanding weeks students demonstrate such a jump in their language skills, cultural understanding and confidence in the target language. J'espère que nous aurons le plaisir de vous accueillir à l'Ecole française!

I think a better word for my question is about the selectiveness of the program. Is it difficult to get accepted into it?

I believe admission to the language schools is done on a rolling basis, so the sooner you apply, the better.

Financial Aid is also allocated in order of application received, so better shot at more aid with an early application.
