To Ihatemylife -

My son was accepted at Middlebury and Northwestern. He was at Middlebury this past weekend and will be at Northwestern next week. My wife is very impressed with Middlebury. What are your thoughts on each?

hmm Middlebury was definitely my top choice over northwestern primarily because of size and location. It's absolutely beautiful and small ( which I though tI wanted) without being absolutely tiny. They're obviously both great schools, but midd was a little better for me since I want to be an english major ( and nothing compares to english at midd)
I'm going to the wildcat days at northwestern too... hope your son and I both like it :/

Ihatemylife -

So will you go to Northwestern or stick it out for Middlebury? My son (who just came back from Northwestern last night) will probably select Northwestern over Middlebury because of location. Middlebury is pretty isolated and Northwestern has Chicago. Plus Northwestern is probably much stronger in Economics.

But I hear that Middlebury is a wonderful place. Part of me would regret passing up Middlebury - although it isn't about me.

Any further thoughts?

I'm enrolling in Northwestern, but staying on the waitlist at midd. If I get off the waitlist then I will consider withdrawing from NU

Fascinating... I'm enrolling at Midd, and staying on the waitlist for Amherst.

These waitlists are terrible, terrible evils.

Any news on how Middlebury is planning to use their wait list, if at all?

Probably won't hear anything until late next week (after all of the reply cards stop trickling in).

College meets desired enrollment

The College's Office of Admissions announced that, as of May 6, it had received 564 deposits for September and 92 for February enrollment. The numbers ensured that it would fill its target enrollment size of 570 for September and 90 students for February, after only 18.5 percent out of a record 7,823 applicants were admitted to Middlebury's Class of 2012.

The number of applicants grew by nine percent this year. In order to prevent a second over-enrollment - after the Class of 2011 yielded an unexpectedly high matriculation rate - the Class of 2012 acceptance pool dropped by 200 students.

Has anyone else been contacted from the waitlist? How do they contact you? Phone, email?
