Winter Clothes

Any thoughts about a good place to get quality, inexpensive winter clothes?

Living in Texas has taught me very little about how to dress for northern climes.

Thnx

Any department store should have what you need. There also are plenty of on-line retailers that you could order from. Try altrec (dot com) for sales on brand name outfitters (like North Face, Patagonia, etc.). Not sure how much inventory these stores will have at the beginning of summer, but you may find some discounts on last winter's styles.

I completely understand you, BL192.

I'm from Texas myself (Houston) and I'm also trying to figure out how I'm gonna make the big switcheroo from hot and muggy to cold and chilly.

BL192 and weatherman, don't buy your winter clothes before arriving at Middlebury. Shipping them makes no sense, and without guidance you'll buy the wrong stuff anyway. When you arrive in Midd in August it will be warm and beautiful, if not actually hot - not Texas hot but still plenty warm. You'll have 6-8 weeks to figure out what to get. There are plenty of experienced New Englanders who can guide you about what to get. In terms of inexpensive places to buy stuff, there is a TJ Maxx in Burlington - great place to buy everything you need at discounted prices. Good excuse for a road trip...

We have also found some good prices online at KL Sport.

I'm also from Texas and have bought tons of stuff through Lands End online. The prices are incredibly cheap right now, because cold clothing is not in season, so it's been really inexpensive getting a lot of the basics!

Laxtaxi - There's also a TJ Maxx in Middlebury. The Alpine Shop downtown also has most anything you need for cold weather. Not that a road trip to Burlington isn't nice...

A TJ's in Midd? Unbelievable. Next you'll tell me there's a Wal-Mart!

If anything (and on the outer edges of town most certainly), I would hope Target would make it there first!
