college & ROTC to West Point

Our son is in his second year of college and ROTC. He will be attending USMA in June. A student friend has asked if he has to keep attending college this sememster, or should he leave? What are the ramifications of leaving early since he will essentially be starting college all over again?

I don't know of any ramifications but I would stay in college this semester just to be on the safe side

mombo,

There are lots of things that can go wrong before the academic year begins. An injury could prevent him from attending or completing Beast. If he has to return to his civilian college and ROTC program, I bet he'd hate to have lost this semester.

Good luck!

Hey
I'm a freshman in college who was just admitted to USNA class of 2010. I don't know about you, but I'm staying for sure. One reason is that my parents already paid the bills, but I'm definitely going to keep pace with my calculus and chemistry class not only for validation purposes, but also to keep them refreshed in my mind. I might drop a class to take it easy before I go hardcore at the academy, but that'll take me down only to 14 credits and it'll be International Relations or French that'll go. If you stuck with college for 3 semesters already, you can probably handle another 1, but I know I wouldn't drop it. Also, I agree with momoftwins. You never know what'll happen in the future so an unforseen circumstance might prevent you from enrolling in USMA and you definitely need a backup plan in that case.
