We have friends whose daughter attended for several summers during high school. They stay in one of the barracks. She enjoyed it a lot.

I went to Army Swimming, same basic idea.

It was fun, not military. It is for people who want to further themselves in their sport by enjoying/exploiting usma's athletic facilities. (it also makes a lot of dough for the intercollegiate athletic program, it is not cheap). most participants their have no intention of joining the army/wp. You may run into cadets that are members of the respective varsity sport, or athletes from other schools. I was trained by a swimmer from UConn. The real coaches work at the camp, so it could be a way to establish a relationship if you are real good and want to play at wp. You do sleep in barracks, eat in Ike hall, not the cadet mess, but you do have the oppertunity to laugh at the plebes (this year me) drilling in the areas.

The New Cadets (they're not Plebes until A Day), will be there on July 4 and most likely will watch fireworks from Trophy Point, listening to the Army Band.

Does anyone know anything about the one week West Point Leadership week? Son is a junior in HS and got sent an invitation. He's interested in going. I am really curious if it will look good on college apps?

Thanks for any and all replys!

the week is called sls, apply now!!!
(check other posts)

I remember watching the fireworks, they were pretty good.

I do not remember being allowed to go to the gym. about 4-5 hrs were spent in the pool, so no one really had any inclination to go there either. Free time is spent touring the point, or hanging out in the barracks eating junk food that is sold in the area concession (it is specially set up for the camps under a portal/ tunnel thing (someone tell me the real name, i forget). there is also a lot of time spent in the class room learning about sport skills.

Sally port is the word you're looking for.

And July 4th is really cool--it was a great respite within those first weeks. Made you feel really proud to be doing what you're doing.

Hey, I've been to the camp twice and its a lot of fun. You stay in the barracks and eat in Ike Hall. As for touring the campus or going to the gym or anything, you usually arent up to it, have three tiring practices a day, morning, afternoon and evening. Most of free time is spent catching a nap or like jrbunz said, eating junk food. I would suggest bringing powdered gatorade and making yourself a bottle before each practice, it gets pretty hot in the afternoon sessions. It ends up being a really long week but it is definitly worth it.

The second time i went was during the 4th and we did go see the fireworks. We sat by ourselves on some random field or something, not anywhere near the cadets.
Yea, they do have special training for keepers, although you usually play a match in the evening so then you go and play for a team then.
