Bottom of page 3 talks about SS identification

uh...your parents probably have it in a fire safe box or something. It has your # and I think your signature

Relax about your birth certificate and SScard. In previous posts, it has been recommended that new cadets hand carry copies of paperwork already provided, JIC. We did this for our new cadet last year but he did not need any of it.
You will be fine and you will not be turned away.
As for too much stuff, take what makes you feel comfortable knowing you have. If you are not allowed to have it in Beast, you will surely use it later.
Sock liners can be a company issue, you may or may not be allowed to have them.
As for carrying everything, yes you do have to carry your belongings, but last summer our new cadet had several opportunities to drop his stuff throughout R-Day.
Congratulations and good luck. Everyone will do fine if they take it one day at a time. Beast isn't your Plebe year and Plebe year isn't your entire West Point experience.
:-)

Perhaps some of the new plebes can tell us what was really useful during Beast and what was a waste of packing space.

Useful during beast (or WISH i had):

blister bandaids - GOOD ones
LEATHERMAN <---so useful, I used it every day.
Sizzors (if on leatherman that would be fine too)
Mole skin (or bandaids like above)
Learn the knowledge before hand. Some people say don't... you don't HAVE to (i didn't..) but it will save you a lot of time if you learn it before hand. Esp: The core, the days, sco. def of discipline, worths battalion orders, code of conduct... etc
flash light
make sure you actually bring you cell phone/charger..it will be in storage, but you can use it during re-orgy week if you pack it.
nice watch w/ alarm
small alarm clock
motivation! (my roommates said to say that haha..)

An understanding that week 1 and part of week 2 is 100% mental. You will learn to understand that the will yell at you regardless. Just TRY to do the right thing, and you'll get by. However, no one is right all the time, it's okay. Just keep your head up and you'll do fine.

Once physical stuff comes around - just keep pushing yourself. So many people failed the APFT on day 3, but 94% passed...so you will get fit. However, if you can, prepare for RUCKS. If you can - start putting weight in a backpack and walking around. Once you get tired and wanna stop - start walking up hills. Seriously... this will prepare you mentally. I thought rucks sucked hardcore.

that's all I have!

That's all I can think of for now, if I get more ill let ya know!

I am a firm believer in the "go naked" approach now after having gone through Beast. R-Day for me sucked not because of the hazing or anything but because I had all that stuff I mentioned I would bring on my back for like the entire day. Yeah it sucked, but it did save me a lot of time/money later on. A lot of stuff at the C-Store is way over priced.

Knife

I bought a Swiss army knife and then I went online and was just checking around and all over they were reccommending Leatherman...is it worth it to return my swiss army knife. Or should I get the leatherman?

armygirl1,
Congratulations on your appointment for the UMSA Class of 2016!

I have owned a leatherman knife since I was 6 years old in Cub Scouts and it has been very useful for Scouting and other activities. I recently upgraded to the new Leatherman MUT and it has some very useful features specifically for Military use. I researched and found the cheapest option on eBay, but you may not recieve it in time for Beast. Look around and you may be able to find it, but I think it is worth returning the Swiss army knife for the Leatherman - just my opinion.

Here is a link: Leatherman Military/LE: MUT

Look forward to seeing you at Beast! Good luck!

Go ARMY! Beat NAVY!!
