| "From what I have seen the stress cadets have comes from having more to do in a day than can usually be accomplished (perfectionists have to learn to compromise) , constantly being evaluated and corrected, sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion (especially if they are on a team). It is a stress that wears on you over time, and is perhaps not that evident to those who visit for 24 hours."
Ann - I absolutely agree with you on the above. Believe me, the visit was not flawless. There were little mishaps that my son got to experience (a misplaced hat that was mandatory for inspection, the cadet that was supposed to call "minutes" was not on time, etc). While these seem such small things in our world, they were not small to the cadets involved.
My son was very impressed with the camaraderie he witnessed. Nobody would let their brother or sister fail. A hat was borrowed, someone else stepped in and called "minutes", and the list goes on. 24 hours is not enough time to truely evaluate the difficulties and challenges of Cadet life, but I'm glad we had that little glimpse into the reality of the situation. |

| This is true for active duty members too. The camraderie is like nothing anyone will ever see in the typical workplace. After 20 years we have friends that are located around the world. It is not uncommon to not see them for years and pick up exactly where you left off from the last time you saw them...the only differences are : higher rank, more wrinkles and older kids. I still chat and email with a girlfriend that I have not physically seen in 15 yrs. My very best friends were Bullets crew mates over 10 yrs ago, and we will always make it a point to meet up with them whenever it is physically possible (usually will drive a day out of the way enroute to our new assignment to spend a night with them). |

| Add Another To The List! Our son received a call at school from his senator (during his AP Euro History class!) and went through the halls screaming, "I got the call, I got the call!". Picture this: it was also Uniform Day in JROTC!
His nominating senator called the HS Principal earlier in the day to arrange a time to call our son. The Principal casually asked how the process was going and to come by his office to chat at about 2:15. Then he called us and asked us to stay hidden in another room and when the call came through he quickly motioned us into his office. Our son had no idea what was about to happen! The look on his face was priceless.
Will he accept? 6 ACT tests, 3 CFAs, 3 MOC Applications & Interviews, 1 DoDMERB exam and 4 remedials later; you betcha!!!
His nominating Congressman also called him late yesterday afternoon to congratulate him, but he was still at track practice. |

| I dont know what i am going to do. I have an appointment to USMA off a principal nom from my congressman, but i also have a pres., 1 senator, and congressional nom to USNA. I really want to go to USMA, but just cant bring myself to accept without knowing if i got into USNA, so I decided to wait a little, anyone else in this situation, appointed to one academy but just cant accept without knowing the full options? kinda stuck Extremely happy either way though |

| Have you been to both academies? If you haven't, I highly suggest it.
If you really want to go to USMA, what's the draw to USNA? |

| I accepted my West Point appointment last month and turned down the Air Force Academy last week. I'll turn down an ROTC scholarship to Tulane University soon as well. Go Army! |
