ha.. i currently attend USMAPS. i have read this thread and for the most part everyone has a good point. it is definitely a good year to decide if you want to go to west point (or even be in the army) or not. i, myself, have already received my acceptence. no body wants to stay here during CCBT or the first academic quarter for that matter. after a while, the TAC officers seem to back off (unless you are in Charlie company) a little, and most CC's accept the things that upset them in the past- so it is do-able.

if you do come here i STRONGLY suggest that you defer any acceptences to any other colleges you have so far. also, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to apply to some other colleges while you are at USMAPS. i only say this from experience. some kids get in serious trouble. others get kicked out for academics. and some just simply get the short end of the stick. in other words, leave yourself options. no shame in doing what you want

and yes, this place is like 90% recruited athletes.

p.s. if you remember one thing remember this- try not to get mrs. sprauge for math or mr. waller for english...... nothing but aggony that is unecessary.

"it is definitely a good year to decide if you want to go to west point (or even be in the army) or not"

Rightous101: I see from your other posts that you are trying to get into a civilian university even though you have an appointment to WP. What made you change your mind about attending West Point and serving in the army?

I should also add that while some candidates may question their commitment and decide that WP and the army is not for them while at USMAPS (and it is better to find this out before a candidate accepts an appointment), the goal of the Prep School program is not to give you a year to "decide if you want to go to west point (or even be in the army) or not". USMAPS is a limited program for candidates who are committed to attending USMA. USMAPS and USMA are not "try it and see if you like it" schools. You really have to want the end goal to be successful - the journey is an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Rightious101: I wish you every success in your future!

Prep school is offered to candidates who are not yet ready for the academy, but the academy is willing to put one more year in with them to get them up to academy speed. It is where many pre-enlisted go before going to the academy. You get in by having it offered to you and you are there for one year. I think it's around 95% of those in the prep school go to the academy. The other 5% either drop out or can't pull up their SAT scores.

Mine? Sorry. What I meant was that their test scores need improving and that the Army is willing to invest in them and help them bring up their scores.
