New Cadet Handbook?

I would really appreciate it if anyone who has a file of New Cadet Handbook post it so I could prepare for the Beast.

Hi, John,

I'm not sure what you are referring to when you ask for a copy of the New Cadet Handbook. The 28 page "Information for New Cadets and Parents" book? If you are, this is one of the many things that WP will send you once you've been appointed?

If you are referring to what is "lovingly" called the book of Knowledge, then you will receive a copy when you report.

Please clarify what information you are seeking, and we will try to be more helpful.

I meant Book of Knowledge. I wanted to prepare before I enter the Beast.

Those are not given out until beast...you might find someone who happens to have one for whatever reason, but they are not widely distributed...it is not sent in advance for a reason. You were sent a pedometer and a packet of instructions to get physically fit; that is what you should be doing now.

You'll have plenty of time to study your knowledge during Beast, trust me. Like mom3boys said, just get in shape and enjoy what free time you have left.

Is this the plebe knowledge stuff you need to know during Beast?

That's the one...you'll get your own condensed version in June...all in a nice, neat, little green book!

Did you accept WP? You were exploring other options last we heard from you!

frijoles - please explain "that guy" reference. Many are new to this forum and may not know what you mean. No time like the present to start educating them.

Thanks

haha...one can read a very long similar thread on the USNA page about the same topic and the varying opinions thereof. Men and women have been memorizing plebe knowledge for generations without prior exposure; the class of 2012 will no doubt do just as well...why not just wait and be surprised?

My apologies. 'That guy' in this case refers to the person who shows up on R day having already memorized the bulk of what he/she thinks will be in the new cadet handbook which is not good for a couple of reasons. The oppertunity to pimp his/her classmates will be there which is never good and you really ought to be doing better thing with what, for all intents and purposes will be your last summer. The knowledge is also different from year to year so you dont want to waste your time memorizing something you dont have to either...its really not that hard to just do it when you get here.

Thank you for the response. I asked for the new cadet handbook, because when I visited West Point, one of the cadets recommended me to memorize some part of it before entering the Beast. But I guess its better not to...

I had thought about it in the past but decided, based on advice, not to do so. Even though it may give me an "advantage", it wouldn't help me be a better cadet. I believe my time remaining will be best spent physically or academically preparing.

West Point doesn't expect you to know knowledge, but they do expect you to be on top of the ball with academics and in good shape.
