ok lets all just settle down......many people on here are cadets, are related to cadets, used to be cadets, so i'm not sure how we missed this, but cadets have quite a bit of free time. With this time, they rapell out of windows to turn papers in, they throw water baloons off of roofs and they do all sorts of other stupid/funny/generally entertaining things. They also spend an inordinate amount of time online and on email, thus when one person somehow got this press release, they probably found it entertaining and emailed it to a few buddys or a team, and those people did the same, and so on and now everyone knows about good ol milty the third. Generally, cadets dont go out saying, "lets go find some kids coming in next year who said something dumb in a paper", cus I'm sure there are plenty of other press releases in which people said stuff just like milton.

As far as those who say that this article is going to dictate how well milty will do at the academy, please stop. I've got a really tough time believing that his answers to a few questions from a reporter are going to have any bearing on his sucess or lack therof as a cadet and hopefully officer. He will act the way he will act and he will probably make it through beast because truthfully, its not very hard to do, and once the third day rolls around, the cadre will have plenty of reasons to yell at everyone else too.
Sorry for the long post, i generally dont comment, i just feel its necessary to stop the madness sometimes.

also, triggs, cmon man, do you really think that this kid, who is supposedly bright enough to get into west point would be stupid enough to make a profile on a website blatantly full of cadets and talk crap?

I suppose some of you may question my 'dog in this fight'. Allow me to say that I have seen probably 40 or so young men and women off to the SAs over the past 10 yrs or so. Milton's Yuma newspaper article is typical of the candidate who will do well. Excited, exuberant, he has the world by the horns. He is an optimist. He doesn't need a bunch of naysayers telling him that things will be tough. He knows it. He will take the shock of R-Day in stride.

There is a time for exuberance and a time for humility. Now is the time for exuberance. The academy will temper that with humility. One does not need to be a member of the WP 'family' to know that it is a lot easier to temper enthusiasm than it is to create it.

Attitude is everything. Allow him to have his well deserved time in the sun. Small town America deserves it. That press release, in itself, was probably worth three or four applications next year. Who knows, one of them may be President of the US. It really does my heart well to know that there are still young men and women interested in this.

This kid seems similar to that kid thats a plebe here now that had his own website about how he was going to be the president. The school made him take it down because it was so rediculous and now the url is blocked by websense. My friend went on a B&G trip with him and saw this plebe handing out his business card to the people that spoke to them (oh sweet let me put this in my rolodex!) Pretty big tool. I think this is more of the impression everyone is getting about this new kid coming in. If someone really wants to become the President good for them, but I think announcing something like that while youre still in highschool shows why you want to achieve that.

Actions speak louder than words, we dont want cheerleaders.

How's life at the academy? I found out that I'm already placed on the most wanted list by nearly everyone person who's read the article published by our local newspaper. However, I gotta say I was nervous at first, but it's really weird. I almost want to see what everyone has in store for me when I get there. This should make things a WHOLE lot more interesting than having not singled myself out. I don't know if it's going to be fun, but challenging seems to be the right way to describe this now, and I can't wait to get pushed, forced to my limits; let's see if Beast breaks me. I still would like to do politics, because (just think about this), if not a cadet than who? Obama or Clinton, that's who!

Wow, I'm glad I got out of the military and went to a real school instead of putting in an officer package. Most of you guys sound like ******bags. No wonder most officers were such tools...
