Is it even possible to be a vegetarian at WP?

I doubt it. You basically eat what they serve, and their menus are structured to provide enough nutrients. You will be expending a massive amount of energy and will need all the nutritional support you can get. Part of the responsibilities of your chain of command is to keep you healthy. They will notice if you're not eating properly and/or lose too much weight.

Yeah, that's what I expected to hear. I'm a vegetarian now but realize that it's a whole different story when you can't go to the local supermarket and get specially made vegetarian food. I had a taste of it on a week long community service immersion that left me exhausted from a lack of all sorts of nutrients. And if one week was hard, 4 years I guess is impossible.
I do it mostly for health reasons though, so it wouldn't be that big of a sacrifice to switch back to being a cannibal .... I mean carnivore.

jk and thanks for the response.

While food at West Point is not of the "gourmet variety" I can assure you it will not leave you "exhausted from a lack of all sorts of nutrients"....

It is entirely possible to eat vegetarian during the academic year if you are willing to plan and spend money. There are a number of places that deliver food to cadets who have vegetarian offerings, and the commissary has a fair amount of vegetarian fare available. I know several cadets who have managed to do it. During Beast (and various other times) it is not possible, but if you really want to you can manage a lot of the other times.

Ann,
I was referring to a lack of nutrients from my choice of not eating meat during a week long immersion in an area with very few food choices.

and USMA08Mom I'm very glad to hear that because I do prefer to be vegetarian for health reasons but I'm not committed to it to the death like some others are.
