| J-Lab/Unified
I've been hearing all sorts of strange rumors about these classes and can't quite figure out if they're true or not.
For example, for Unified a friend of mine is UROPping for the rocket team for credit. Apprarently, if you do this you can get credit for Unified. Is this the case? If so, can you do something similar for J-Lab? |

| I'm sure pebbles will weigh in (she's in Unified right now), but my fiance says emphatically "no".
You can get credit for Unified by taking a couple of the course 2 intro classes (2.001-2.005). I doubt credit would be awarded for Unified merely for UROPing for credit.
I would say that generally, UROP for credit is available only to get extra units outside the GIRs -- I can't think of any class I've heard of which could be bypassed by doing UROP for credit. | |

| Wow, I didn't know you could get credit for Unified from 2.001/3/5. I thought it was just the other way around. Hmm...
Anyway, you can actually bypass J-Lab with some kind of outside experimental experience (UROP, externship, etc), but only if you're 8B (the "flexible physics" major, not the standard one). | |

| Well I think someone on my floor switched from 16 to 2 by getting all her credits transferred after taking Unified to knock off 2.00x. I think it would be harder to go the other way around, since Unified is more specific than Course 2. It may of course be possible, but either way I don't think it's something that would be listed on any of the websites as an "alternate" path, since it certainly wouldn't be recommended. It's more the kind of thing you'd find out about because you know someone who fought with the departments and filled out a lot of paperwork to get it to happen. | |

| Oh man, since we're on the topic, this reminds me.
There was a girl who took 7.02 with me (course 7) who was planning to take Unified to get out of taking 5.60. Umm... 5.60, not really that hard. Unified, definitely that hard. | |
