unweighted vs weighted GPAs

A basic general question! Do the top universities look at the unweighted GPAs or the weighted GPAs considering higher weights for Honors and/or AP courses..

would appreciate advise..

Thanks - RK1

Usually they will specify which form they want. Most often I see them specifying unweighted GPA. They will take your honors and AP classes into account when they actually look at your transcript.

If you do put weighted GPA, make sure to note that. Also you might want to describe the weighting if your school does alternative weightings.

yeah, most schools are pretty transparent on what they'll do with your GPA. if it's not on their website, I'm sure they wouldn't mind a phone call.

don't worry about it too much though. if you have a strange situation, just include a note on your transcript. my school decided to remove weights/bumps from all AP and honors classes this year (and not adjust previous years accordingly). all I did was include a note somewhere on the MIT app.
