Is anybody going to be playing a Varsity sport at MIT?
I've been talking with the lacrosse coach for a while so I think I have a spot on the team, although I'm not 100% sure how exactly it works - I don't know if I still have to try out or I'm just on the team since the team needs more people.
I'm also going to try out for the Ice Hockey team since hockey's my real sports passion.
Anybody else?
Edit: Whoops, spelled prospective wrong.

Hockey definitely has tryouts -- a friend of mine got cut. I don't know about lacrosse.

I have to compare financial aid packages but I'll most likely be playing fball and running indoor/outdoor track (60m, 100m, 200m, and respective relays)

I'm for sure sailing and I'm totally stoked.
And nj, did you post in the 2012 FB group thread we have about this, too? Other wise, there's someone exactly like you in our class.

So I'm way late on answering this one, but lacrosse most definitely doesn't have tryouts, they're constantly recruiting new people. I play field hockey and it's the same coach and a lot of overlap with the players, and someone's always trying to convince someone else on the fh team to play lacrosse. The bottom line is, there will definitely be people on the team who have never played before, so it sounds like you'll be okay.

ivyleague: the "actual" team, by which I assume you mean varsity, of any sport would normally be the only one which had any sort of try-outs. Club sports may vary, but they'll typically take anyone with interest (although some are more rigorous than others and expect team members to come to all practices, etc), and any MIT student can join an IM team.
