Where are you temped?

I see from Facebook that temporary housing assignments have come out.

Where are you living for your first week at MIT? (Dorm name and possibly floor/entry/wing preferable to room number, probably. )

Any questions about the dorm, or other dorms in which you're interested? Any questions about the housing assignment process?

MacGregor, Gentry. It was actually my second choice.
Looks like I'll be taking full advantage of REX and having lots of free food.

I know we are not suppose to have anything that heats up in our room.
Can we bring/buy rice cookers and coffee makers and keep them in the kitchen? or is there not enough space?

btw Mollie. Are there no elevators for the lower tower? I don't think carrying luggage more than my weight up several flights of steps is good for me... but I have FPOP, so no one will be around when I get there.

And are there some course 6 and/or 15 people in MacGregor?

You can absolutely bring or buy cooking appliances and keep them in the kitchen -- there's not much counter space, unfortunately, but there is plenty of cabinet space. You can also store them in your room and use them in the kitchen, if you'd prefer. (But you can never use them in your room, because the room inspections are exactly once a year, are announced, and you can hide any illegal appliances in your closet. Nobody I knew ever did anything even remotely like that. At all. If you get my gist. )

There aren't any elevators in the low-rise, but it's only four floors -- the elevators don't go to every floor in the high-rise (just one stop per entry), so odds are good that you'd have to carry luggage no matter what. But even though you're getting there early, there will still be plenty of people there (about 10% of the dorm returns early to help with rush, plus another ~20% who stayed in the dorms over the summer), and I know they will be happy to help you move in.

And there are definitely some course 6 and 15 people in MacGregor. My next-door neighbor was even a 6 and 15 double!

Burton 2, 231D. I am beyond stoked. Probably will be switching around floors, though, but I'll wait until REX and see what happens then.

41W, East Campus, room M410. I am pretty excited, my parents are less than enthused about dropping their daughter off next to a stripper pole

You are lucky! ducktape! that was my first choice!
But REX is going to be awesome, I am going to try not to make up my mind till after REX.

My foster host (my original one kicked me out for 2 nights b/c of her 6.046 take home exam) for CPW told me about once a year inspection thing. so SOME people (i am not saying that it is you) did do the "illegal" cooking in room thing.

Baker 502! My parents freaked when they learned that the bathrooms were co-ed; they would have much preferred McCormick, but we can't all have what we want, hm?

I was looking at the floor plans all last night, and I still think my room is funky looking with a little thing called a "P Lav" that juts into the front of the room. I'm so excited, I really can't wait to see what it's actually like! It's so hard to imagine... I should have taken that architecture drawing class in school...

mollie, do you know if the one kitchen in baker is open for student use twenty-four hours a day? I might have to *coughsmugglecough* a microwave in otherwise...

Well, this 5E, East Campus* alum is thrilled to see an excited EC temp frosh.

Just because I'm pleased, though, doesn't mean that I don't think you should be looking elsewhere. That goes for all of you! REX is when you're *really* choosing where you want to live, so take full advantage of it even if you love where you are - you never know what you'll find. I'm a big proponent of having the upperclassmen shoo any frosh who are clinging too hard to their temp residence out of the dorm to go look around. Yeah, I realize that if you're in a temp place you like, the people are probably neat and you want to hang out with them, but there's plenty of time to do that after REX is over.

*Possibly the only hall in EC more likely to cause lack of parent enthusiasm than 4W.

you can't stay in the same room as temped.
Even if you stay in the same dorm, there is a rule that you have to change rooms. (to motivate students to do REX) I think there is like one exception where you try to switch out of the dorm, but you didn't get any of the one you want, then you get to stay in your room as a treat since you didn't get the dorm you want.
