McCormick

What dorms are people interested in McCormick also interested in? For example, I know the East Campus dorms tend to go as a set as do Baker/Simmons/Burton Connor.

I'm just trying to find out more about the culture of the dorm. I really liked McCormick when I visited, but I only met a few residents and I don't want to be stuck in a dorm that isn't the best match for me.

While there are "east" dorms and "west" dorms, your tastes may completely ignore these lines. Mine do

McCormick residents are unique in their "BOYS ARE GRODY!" mentality.

Does anyone know if McCormick has an in house rush at the beginning of the year? Their Code of Rules claims that they have one on Reg Day to accomodate new residents (and these residents will receive a temporary assignment until then), but the freshmen advice section of their site says the summer assignments are permanent for the semester.

Um, Baker, Simmons and BC are certainly not a set in any sense of the word. They are all very different.

McCormick is sort of a special case, because it's single sex. I don't think there's any single other dorm that people who are interested in McCormick are also interested in.

Yes, upperclassmen have insisted repeatedly that they are very different. Nonetheless, prefrosh only have limited resources (i3 videos, dorm websites, brief visits during CPW, etc.) to go off of and those who are interested in one tend to be interested in the others. That's all I meant by "go as a set."

I don't know about other people, but I ranked Baker, BC, and Simmons highly and together not so much for universal interest in the three than for universal UNinterest in EC, Random, and Senior House.

And because, at the time, putting Next in your top four got you stuck there.

One thing I will note about McCormick girls is there are a lot of different kinds of girls there. There are girls that, if McCormick didn't exist, would probably live at EC or Random. There are girls that, if McCormick didn't exist, would probably live at Baker, or girls who would live at Next, or... you get my drift? That's part of the reason why it's not really part of a set 'group' of dorms; the girls who choose to live there come from a wide variety of other interests and personality types and are brought together by the common thread that they're all female and would like to be surrounded by other people who are female.

At least this is what I've seen. Other students who know more people in McCormick can feel free to correct me.
