what are the pros and cons of joining a new fraternity/sorority vs joining an old fraternity/sorority?

Really, your first consideration should not be new vs. old. Your first consideration should be whether it seems like the place for you in terms of personality and culture.

Old houses tend to be a little more set in their personality than new houses, and they have a larger chapter alumni network. Neither of these things is necessarily a pro or a con, they are just, well, things.
