| DSL1990: Virginia, you say? That's where I'm going! I'm heading to Sweet Briar, so that's even more on the opposite end of where you're heading, hehe. |

| Class of '12 from 2nd most competitive pool

It was the 13th day of Experience MHC, the event for admitted students, and the first day Director of Admissions Diane Anci didn't have to stand with her back against the wall because of the huge turnout by admitted students-even after the admissions office spread the event over 15 days instead of having it condensed into one day.
"We did our best to have this not be a zany project," said Anci. Over seven hundred admitted students signed up for Experience, and spreading the group out over 15 days was more manageable, said Anci. Admissions felt that having so many admitted students on campus all at once was too overwhelming for the College, current students and admitted students, and made the change in order to make it easier for all involved.
An extra 800 people on campus at once gave the school a "manufactured feel," said Anci. "While we always receive very good marks about how we manage the crowds, we thought, wouldn't it be nice if they could see Mount Holyoke in its natural state," said Anci. Not only did the change make tours easier, but more students were able to participate because there were more dates to choose from.
Next year the admissions office will continue to streamline the Experience program. The biggest change will be adding more options to visit classes, and there will be fewer overnight visits as well, as students find it taxing to host prospective students both during the day and overnight. "It backfires and doesn't serve anyone," said Anci. "We want to balance meeting [the admitted students'] needs against the pressure and stress on the Mount Holyoke community," she said.
Although admitted students are not required to commit to the College until May 1, the class of 2012 will have about 525 students come in the fall, 75 in the spring, 35-50 transfer students and 45 Frances Perkins students. The class was the second-largest pool admitted, after the class of 2011, but Anci said it was "probably the strongest in Mount Holyoke history."

Not sure what this means, looking at the date and all. Best of Luck to the Virginia girls. |

| Hi yepunsarang! Where did you choose instead?
Best of luck with everything. I'm sure it wasn't an easy decision to make.

| yepunsarang, I'm so happy for you! Bates is a fantastic school. Have you thought about a major yet?
I think between 7-10 were taken from the waitlist, and my guess that's gonna be it (judging on numbers in previous years). I did email the adcoms for an update, but received no reply.
MamaBO, congratulations to you and your daughter! You must be so proud. I'm glad that everything worked out (I know you were worried about the time difference when contacting adcoms) and I hear the acceptance package is beautiful!
I hope she has a thoroughly enjoyable, productive, and successful experience at Mount Holyoke! |

| redsexton, I continue to pray that you get in. Don't give up. Then again, in a couple more years I believe you'd qualify to get into MHC through the Francis Perkins Program. Why don't you study the possibilities there? Go look it up, it's exciting. |

| Hey redsexton! It amazes me how supportive and kind people can be even when they're under so much stress. That's really something wonderful...I also wish very hard that you'll get into MHC. It's really the people who deserve to be there an really want to attend who should really be going to places that are as wonderful as MHC. I understand how you must feel...
I'm still not sure what I want to major when I go to Bates, but I wrote down Literature on my application because I think that's what I want to do...but of course, that can change! I'm really excited about college! I hope it's going to be everything I wished for. Good luck redsexton! Either way, you'll get somewhere great, so cheer up and be strong! |

| Thanks MamaBO and yepunsarang!
I'll qualify to be part of the Class of '13, MamaBO, as a Francis Perkins Scholar. You need to turn 24 in the first semester, and I'll turn 24 in November 09.
I'm already looking into UK courses, yepunsarang. I already have a TV/Film Diploma and will most likely choose a 1 year top up degree, and then apply for an MFA. Maybe being waitlisted was the best option!
I would still really love to get in and you certainly accept if offered a place, no matter how late in the day. However, I did email the adcoms over a week ago and got an email back today which didn't answer any of my questions, so I'm guessing it was just a generic email, like the waitlist notice. Did anyone else get this?....
We are in the process of making decisions regarding the wait list.
Essentially, we are evaluating the number of spaces we may or may not have
available on a daily basis.
If your status changes, I will be sure to let you know immediately.
We are uncertain about whether we will be able to make additional offers.
Thus, we recommend that students on the wait list evaluate their other
options. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best wishes,
Sarah |

| Well, I guess I did not make MHC's cut from their waitlist. I logged on ISIS today and looked into applicant summary and got this message in red bold text: You're not a current applicant. So I assumed that I was rejected.
I wish that they used another way to tell me that sorry, you did not make it rather than giving me such a cold rejection which made me felt like such a slap on the face.
Anyway, i'm gonna give them a call later on to ask just to make this crap official. Unlike everybody else, I did not receive any email or mail saying that I was on a waitlist apart from the information on ISIS. They told me it was because I'm an international student and probably wouldnt receive the letter for the next few weeks (that was on april 1st). 2months later, nothing.
For the rest of you that still waiting: Good luck ( I really mean it) |
