i got waitlisted at Mount Holyoke, which is very sad. I made sure that the mount holyoke app would be the most perfectly put together. :*(

what is this supposed to mean? they said they remain "very interested" in my application...

and most diverse groups in the College's history. Admission to Mount Holyoke

Here's a guess. They absolutely would take you if they have enough slots. You probably are high on their prospective list as spots open up due to other recruits accepting elsewhere. They want to hear from you to proveto them that you're still interested in MHC. There are probably many acceptees and rejectees that could care less about MHC. So, if you're interested, contact them asap, find out more about your situation, tell them MHC is your #1, and beg, plead, etc., whatever it takes. Good luck!

I agree with twr. If MHC is your Number One, *tell* them so. "If you offer me admission, I will come." But don't say it unless you mean it.

Hey, I just got that letter too. Well actually I got it by e-mail coz I mailed them to let them know I still didnt have my letter. There's apparently some "enclosed form". Can I just mail them to say I want to stay on the wait list?

Since the acceptance notes just arrived a couple of weeks ago, the candidates that decline the offer of admission are just now returning the cards back to MHC. There will be some slots open for sure, so send back their card or give them a call and let them know you are really still interested in attending. My D was admitted but got a scholarship to Smith, so she just put her declination letter to MHC in the mail yesterday.

Sending back the card is a must of course, but a phone to one of the mentioned people is much more important. It demonstrates that you care.

It's difficult to figure the number of slots that will open for those who are waitlisted. Remember, MHC *plans* on nearly 2/3 of their admittees going elsewhere. If many more actually choose to attend, the entire W/L is out of luck. Two years ago there were 157 on the waitlist...32 got in.

twr, I respectfully disagree. There will be hundreds of girls declining the offer of admission and I suspect the folks in MHC admissions have better things to do than to answer the phone all day, accepting no-thanks calls from people who won't be paying tuition at their school. The cards are a written record that can be processed at the admissions office's convenience, rather than a phone call at the caller's convenience.

twr, I'm sorry, I misunderstood what card you meant...you meant the card indicating that you were still interested, not the card saying you were declining the offer. Duh! Sorry.

Argh, I wish my Wellesley waitlist letter had looked like this! They encourage calls at MHC? At W they were like "your app is complete" like they didn't want hundreds of upset women calling their office, haha.

This is a dumb question, but what would you say when you call? You'd already have indicated that you want to remain on the wait list by replying so what would the phone call be for?

This had some interesting info, so I thought I'd bump.

It's amazing how the waitlist has tripled in a few years...and the waitlist letter hasn't changed at all!

I got pretty much the same answer when I checked my application online yesterday. I just was given the name of a different person to talk to. I'm writing them an e-mail right now. It couldn't hurt, right?
