Possible breach of data security???

Somebody posted on another CC forum that MHC mailed them a letter (their D applied last year) that there was a possible breach of info security due to an incident in July 2009.

Anyone else get that letter? Letter supposedly suggested contacting credit card companies and putting identity theft protection on accounts, etc.

D is presently a firstie there, and we did not receive such a letter?

Could it be a scam?

Just wondering what is going on, hoping our personal info is safe.

Security Breach

We also got the same letter. I called Willits and was told that their computer system was attacked by a virus. Credit card information could have been at risk. We have not noticed any unauthorized use of our credit cards. The letter is more alarming than the situation really is - at least that is our thought.

Thanks Shiblet. Guess we'll just watch our credit card statements carefully.

I recently learned of MADad's concern and wanted to provide more information. The potential security breach was discovered in July and affected only individuals who used their credit cards at Mount Holyoke's Willits Hallowell Conference Center. We cannot confirm that any cardholder information was actually accessed; but the letter was sent to those who had used their cards at Willits Hallowell as a precautionary measure in accordance with Massachusetts law. - Jan Albano, Associate Treasurer, Mount Holyoke College
