I assume Muhlenberg accepted fewer applicants this year because so many accepted the admission offer last year. Does anyone know how many they accepted this year vs. how many applied? And of those total acceptances, how many were ED vs RD (and how many applied ED vs RD)?

Of the total applications and acceptances, how many auditioned for theatre? How many auditioned ED vs RD?

Of course, not everyone who will declare a theater major likely auditioned. One can enroll at Muhlenberg as a drama/theater major without auditioning at all.

old to call today and my daughter did. No update. They said that they can nnot disclose how many are waitlisted and there may be no word until after May 1st. This is not what I was told two weeks ago. Anybody else have any updates??

cbpmom, most schools would have no idea if they will need to go to their waitlist, nor how many they will take off of it until after May 1 when they receive back the admitted students' deposits and intentions to enroll. Only after May 1, can they truly know what they will be doing.

Statistics about this year's round of ED and RD admits, as well as waitlist admits, likely won't be out yet to the general public. Such information is readily available as the common data set and through publications such as US News. But I don't think yet for this year. Some schools that send out acceptance letters may state in such letters how many applicants they had and how many were admitted overall.

As far as waitlists go at any school, it varies year to year depending on the yield. You have to look at like a five year period as to how many were waitlisted and how many were taken off that list. For example, two years ago, Brown took 99 kids off their waitlist and took NONE last year. Who knows what will happen this year?

The data eventually will be released for schools as to total number who applied, total acceptances, total ED and total RD acceptances, and waitlist numbers and how many were offered spots off the waitlist.

I do not know that there is such data for the theater major itself at Muhlenberg that will be released. Given that it is a BA school where one doesn't have to truly commit to a major upon applying, such as is the case with a BFA program, I am not sure such data comes out or not. Also, in the case of Muhlenberg, as NMR said, you can apply to the theater major without even auditioning. The audition is optional. So, I am not sure data about how many who auditioned got in, etc. would be numbers that are released such as is the case for audition based BFA programs.

This year?s total is 4,701, up 8.1% from last year?s total of 4,347, and up 16.4% over the past four years. The College hit the ?trifecta of admissions? this year, seeing more applications, lowering its acceptance rate, and seeing a rise in quality in the applicant pool.

The College is aiming for a class of only 550 this year as it tries to maintain a stable enrollment. The target has created a very competitive admissions climate in which only 36% of the applicants have been offered admission.

?The name of the game is quality this year,? says Dean of Admission and Financial Aid Christopher Hooker-Haring. ?We?re excited about the number of applicants, but what?s most exciting is that the quality of the applicant pool continues to rise.?

A new science building, a new residence hall and another residential complex that will be built this summer have fueled some of the increased interest, according to Hooker-Haring. But, he notes that the ?student interest is largely driven by an enthusiastic and energetic campus climate, a strong sense of community, and the quality of the academic and social experiences.?

?Students and faculty are unusually connected to each other on this campus,? Hooker-Haring stated. ?Those connections, and the strong sense of community they create, are a huge part of Muhlenberg?s success.?

While the class will not be finalized until the May 1 National Candidate?s Reply Date, the early returns are promising. ?SAT scores, high school GPA?s, and class rank data are all up from a year ago,? said Hooker-Haring. ?Diversity is up as well, with over 100 more applications from students of color in this year?s applicant pool. The smaller class target is part of the College?s strategic plan to cap enrollment and focus on student quality.?

In addition to the science building and residence halls, the College recently completed an addition and renovations to Seegers Union, as well as the new Brueckner Wing of the Life Sports Center, which opened in August 2004.

?The new buildings are certainly terrific, and they create new possibilities and potentials for Muhlenberg students,? says Hooker-Haring. ?But, it?s what happens inside those facilities?the people and programs?that make Muhlenberg such a distinctive place.?

While I understand that not every student who eventually declares a theatre major auditions for admission there, I was wondering what percentage of those that do audition are offered admission, both for ED and for RD. I have no idea whether they publish such information.
