Hello everyone, I'm 28 and I want to study medicine. I didn't go to college straight out of high school. I'm looking into pursuing this B.A. Biology/M.D. program at UMKC. My job experience is not related to the health field at all and I don't have much exposure to it either. What can I do to better position myself to get accepted in this program? I will complete one college semester (spring) and the summer classes before applying for this program in fall of 2013.

My age is something that also concerns me. I don't know if my age will be a factor that might discourage UMKC to accept me. And if hopefully accepted, I will be graduating by my late 30's. Will I still have the vigor to do my residency or will it be too hard for me? And after that, will I have a hard time finding a job as a physician? Would it be hard to pursue a surgeon specialty after that?

Any help will be extremely appreciated.

^I do not believe that you are eligible anymore. You can check with them. However, as far as I know all combined ba/md, bs/md, accelerated or not are strictly for kids straight out of HS.
On the other hand, there is no age limitation to enter Med. School regular route. The oldest in D's class was 46 in his first year.

Thank you very much for your response. I saw on the internet that as long as you had less than 24 college credits you're fine, but the headline was "from High School Student to College student", so there's definitely some truth in what you're saying. I will call them directly.

And thanks for your kind and encouraging words. To be honest, I do feel a bit old to go into med and I looked into nursing school instead, but I didn't find it so fulfilling for me. I need more science and theory. I decided to go for the medical program since I'm single, I have no kids and it's been my dream.
