Overnight suggestions: Allentown PA

Son is taking a professional audition in Allentown in mid September. Any one have any hotel/motel suggestions? Nothing fancy, just safe, clean in a decent area and within reasonable distance to Symphony Hall. He's driving (not flying) to the audition. He'll probably go the day before and does not want to end up in a "notell motel" or the local party place, as he wants to be well rested before the audition.

Any suggestions (or places to avoid) are welcome.

Marriott has a Courtyard, Fairfield Inn and Residence Inn all 3 miles out of town on Route 22. Most of the hotels will be right off that route.

Been over 30 years since I hung around that area, but IIRMC, you'll better off outside of town than in it. That was the rule with all three in ABE (Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton) when I went to Lafayette.

Good luck on the audition.

We stayed at the Residence Inn that Imperial Zeppelin mentioned when we visited Lehigh and Lafayette this spring. I got the Residence Inn from Priceline and it was a great deal. Here is the website for bidding for travel a priceline must. http://p070.ezboard.com/Pennsylvania...gfrm118?page=1

The area around the Residence Inn is nice with a Applebees and Friendly's just down the street.

We stay there all the time when visitng our D at Muhlenberg. We prefer the Courtyard by Marriott to the other two. They are a bit away from the city, but it a very easy drive, and a nice clean safe area. They are very close to the airport, so if you are flying in, it is very convenient. I would avoid the hotels near Dorney Park, as construction has been going on in that area for a year now.
