Hi all!

Originally, I lived/grew up in Pittsburgh, and as I much as I thought I didn't like the city, ther eis definitely some charm in it. I am thinking of transferring (as my prev. posts say) and was wondering what soem general opinions of duquesne's vocal peformance program are. Is it extremely challenging to get into? (as in at the level of northwestenr?)

I'm a music parent in Pittsburgh and like a lot about Duquesne but I'm not sure how substantial its vocal dept. is. You should go online and maybe even email the head of the dept. Also check CMU, which I know has a substantial well-regarded vocal dept. Another idea is Baldwin-Wallace in Cleveland area. I know of a soprano who went there, won a summer scholarship for vocal studies in Austria, recently graduated and is attending grad school for vocal studies. Here's an off-the-wall idea: Sarah Lawrence College, where you can do as much or as little music as you like--no core requirements. Since it's right outside of NYC, the music faculty is excellent and you have resources in the city, too.

Another thought: Youngstown State, Dana School of Music. My daughter's voice teacher went there and she's quite successful as a vocalist. They give special tuition to students from Western PA--as if you're in-state.
