A friend's daughter is a very talented clarinet player. Right now she is going to apply at USC and Colburn (same teacher) and ASU. Colburn/USC are fiercely competitive, but she's was encouraged to apply by the teacher when she took a lesson. ASU is very good as well. My question is, where else should she be looking? Does anyone know what are considered the top programs right now?
Tom, you don't state a geographic preference. Mannes, Manhattan, and Juilliard all have a number of top clarinet faculty. Alan Kay is on the faculty at Hartt as well as Manhattan. Richard Shilea was at Hartt but retired for health reasons.
