My D got in Oberlin Conservatory (piano)but did not apply double major. Her academic record is also pretty good (GPA close to 4). Just curious, will Oberlin conservatory considers her academic besides her music talent while awarding merit scholarship?(We're waiting for "the package")

I do not think Oberlin considers academics for scholarships that come through the conservatory. That amount depends on how her audition stacks up against others, and whether or not they need more of her instrument this particular year. Academics do play a small part in conservatory admissions, because they want the students to be able to hold their own in their college electives.

The academics only play a major part for scholarships there if the money comes through the college, i.e. for double degree students.

Are we putting lac's on this too? I thought it was only for music majors? My son also was accepted at a number of lac's which do not have performance majors, but I've not included them (e.g., McGill arts & sciences which is completely separate from Schulich which he didn't apply to and which does not have a performance major that I'm aware of).

Right. I probably shouldn't have included the non-music schools as it does confuse matters a bit. Things are confusing enough given that S has applied in violin performance in some places, composition in others, both in some, etc. S is also planning to double degree (or major) wherever possible in Environmental Studies/Science in addition to music (in various forms) which is what prompted me to include the other schools. That and a perverse need to be complete.

So, let's try it again, limiting it to schools with music degrees only, it'd be:

Acceptances:
BU-CFA - BMus - (violin performance, composition)
Brandeis - BMus (violin performance, composition)
UNC CH - BMus - (violin performance, composition)

If you expand it to include a BA with a Music Major (as the title of this forum suggests would be reasonable), then we could add:

UC Berkeley: BA Music - (composition and performance - both are listed as emphases within the Music Major.)

His other current acceptances pertain to the Environmental Studies/Sciences portion of his studies, though Oberlin College does indeed offer a BA with a Music major.

We are currently waiting to hear from McGill (Schulich), NEC, and Oberlin Conservatory on the music side of things and Tufts on the academic side of things.

Hope that's clearer.

Stringfollies: Were you saying that Schulich doesn't offer a performance degree? Here's a link to that seems to suggest otherwise: Department of Performance

If you meant that the McGill A&S's doesn't, then I'm in complete agreement.

One of the purposes of this list is to give the people who read it in future months or years some ideas for where they may want to apply. As such, I do not think we should limit ourselves to schools offering BM degrees. I would rather capture a little too much information than not quite enough. I think we should include all colleges at which the student will be pursuing a music major or minor plus any others that he or she would be attending simultaneously. That would include, for example, both Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory for someone pursuing a double degree there, both Harvard and NEC for anyone who managed to get into that program, and so forth... We probably do not want to include schools which, if attended, would result in the student not having at least a music minor.

From his first posting on this thread, I had assumed that rlmcmillan's son was interested in some sort of double/triple major involving music in some way if he were to attend either Oberlin or McGill and so included both. I did not consider the possibility that he might attend one of those schools and not study music. I have modified the list below pursuant to rlmcmillan's latest posting and hope that he or she will keep us updated when the rest of the results come in. If it is the son's intention to attend McGill A&S or Oberlin College while also working on a music degree in the same setting and he is accepted as a music student, I think we should add that information back in.

If stringfollies cares to list any LAC's at which a music minor or BA music degree would be part of the package, I think they belong on the list as well as the others.
