Wow, some of these notifications (via email or snail mail) are coming very close to the actual audition dates. Is this the norm? Reading on this thread and a few others, some are receiving less than 2 weeks notice. No one can get a decent airfare if that's the case. And if you have multiple auditions that require flights...

I have signed up for Airfare Watchdog that sends me daily (or weekly) announcements on cheap or reduced airfare that are not advertised by the airlines. Seems like it may be helpful to some of you who have to scramble at the last minute.

Click here: When airfares are low, we'll let you know!

GREAT NEW! BEST OF LUCK...Let us know how it goes. My daughter goes there on FEB 1. We have CCM, Baldwin-Wallace and Otterbein to get through first!

rudysmom:

We have had some notice just because I e-mail or call and then they let me know. My D auditions on Feb 1 at IU and we have not received our package. I e-mailed them and they finally sent our info via e-mail today. We are driving, but I still want to get the hotel reservation made. I need to book airfare to Chicago for the Northwestern audition. Thanks for the link!

Linnlew,
Let me know if you need a few recs. for hotels near NU. I leave about 40 minutes from Evanston. Really a great town.

Cartera,

My D's audition is January 24. She is thinking of Otterbein as a safety school, but I would like her to go there! They are so nice and D really feels like a person to them...not just a number.

Rudysmom,

Yes, I would love to have some ideas. Is O'Hare the closest airport? I have yet to plan this trip! What hotels are close and what is the best way to get from the airport to Northwestern? I don't mind if you want to sent me a private message!

Thanks!

Linnlew,
I sent you an email instead of a PM. However, I just realized that unless you have the box checked to accept emails in your CP setup, you won't receive it. So when you return from CCM today, please check. I can re-send as a PM.

Rudysmom,

Hi. I got your e-mail and responded back to it. You didn't get mine? I do appreciate the information. I am about ready to plan the Northwestern trip.
CCM went well today. I know it is a long shot to get into that place, but D said she did her best and we will wait and see. They said we should know really soon. I had no idea they do that rolling admission thing. So, next week we will probably know something!

Thanks again!

Hi Everyone!!!!

So I had my audition on last Friday (January 11th) and it went quite well!!!! We live in Chicago-land area so we drove down to Indiana at 2am, and got there at 8am. Check in started at 8:30am. After that all music education majors met and had to write an essay, and we had a brief orientation about the music program. After that they had interviews (I was the first person to be interviewed) where they would ask you general questions about your musical skills, why IU, and what my long time goals are. Then they give you a sight singing test, they play some notes and ask you to sing them back, as well as give you 2 short rhythm tests...(they play a rhythm, and you tap, or sing what you heard).

My voice audition was at 4:30pm, and once again I was the first one on the list. They had someone introduce me; I came in and performed one of my songs. I think I did a great job, and even though they told me that I needed to prepare 3 selections, they told me that the song that I performed was all they needed to hear and I did not need to perform my other two selections. I guess they could tell from the look on my face that I was kind of worried, considering that a comment like that can go "both ways" but they assured me that the selection that I chose to sing, and the level that I performed exceeded their expectations. I was SOOOO relieved when I heard that.

So then we drove back to Chicago after my audition and got home around 9:30pm. Long day I know, but since I have to go to 5 other states to audition, I am trying to save as much $$ as I can.

Good luck to everyone else, I am sure you will all do an awesome job!

DableST, Congratulations on a great audition! I can feel your excitement!

With the time difference, was it approx. a 5 hour drive? We're in Chicagoland too.

Thanks rudys mom...

We got there in 4 hours.... (I realized that I said we go there at 8am, but we actually go there at 7am their time, 6am Chicago time) There were two people that showed up late because they forgot about the time change....so please keep that in mind when traveling....

I had my IU audition (music ed.) this past weekend as well. DableST_1, I was probably in that room with you when we had to write the essay. Weird. haha.

Anyway, good luck to everyone auditioning! It's a great school.
