Audition date at Peabody

Hi all. I'm just wondering whether anyone has already got their audition date for Peabody? I'm auditioning on campus in Feb auditions. I've already got my audition dates from the other schools (Eastman, Umich) I'm applying to.

I'm international so if they have sent out anything in the mail it'll prob take one month+ to reach me? Kind of sucks, esp. since the email they sent me only says that letters will be sent out about one month before auditions!

A friend of my D's has not received a decision yet on her pre-screening CD for voice.

Last year it was mid January, just like their web page said. If you are international and trying to do flights you might want to call and see if they will email you as soon as they decide. Since you already know the week, we had just kept the week clear, but we did not have to travel far.

FYI - the rooms right there on campus fill up the first day the notices go out. We got hers the second day and they were full so we stayed at a nearby hotel. It required driving to the audition, however. You might want to consider reserving room. What are you auditioning in? Last year voice was on Monday.

Organ!

You can ask them for accommodation? That would be really cool, I think the other schools don't provide accommodations?

Don't get excited about "provided accomodations." There's a small hostel associated with Peabody. That's what people are referring too. You pay for it and it usually fills up right away around audition week. It's probably already booked up. The other hotel within reasonable walking distance is the Peabody Court Hotel, which requires a 2-night minimum audition week. Other hotels are long walk/cab/driving distance.

If you do wind up driving to Peabody for the audition, you will want to arrive on the early side. The conservatory parking garage fills up pretty quickly, particularly during audition week, and you may have to hunt around a bit to find somewhere else to park if it is full when you get there. Even though they tell you to park there in the letter you get with the audition information, you do not have a guaranteed spot.

I live in Baltimore - or just north of the city - so if anyone has any questions about the parking or the area or Baltimore generally, feel free to ask. My D has spent a lot of time at Peabody because she sang with their Children's Chorus for years and recorded her pre-screening CD there very recently. I love the area around Peabody - the shops, restaurants, the general feeling.

I asked around about accommodations and my friend says that there is a Peabody Inn or something (usually for retirees)? Anyone has an email and contact person if I would like to make reservations there first? Also, my friend mentioned that Peabody offered her a lot less aid than the other schools she applied to (Eastman, Cincinnati, Oberlin) I think. Anyone knows if this is the norm?

I have also heard that Peabody usually does not come through with a lot of financial aid, although they offered my daughter as much as Oberlin did and much more than NEC did a few years back.

I believe the Peabody Inn is used for the schools Elderhostel program. I would start by calling the number on this site and go from there.

Peabody Institute - Elderhostel: Elderhostel

S auditioned for Peabody at a regional audition and was offered merit money in the "middle of the pack" - more than some, less than others. I thought the offer quite generous given that he'd done a regional. Actually, the whole experience with Peabody was quite positive for him - and his mom. The Admissions Director invited us both in after the audition taping to "chat" about Peabody - we enjoyed meeting him.

Although S had several Peabody teachers on his list of "desirable instructors", he hadn't known much about the school as a whole before the audtion. If S's first choice had not offered him admission, we would have been seriously considering Peabody.

Peabody and McGill

I called on Thursday for my son (no prescreening, cello). They are very nice; gave me his time and date and connected me with the Peabody Inn. A packet arrived yesterday. I also called and emailed McGill; they answered my email and said they're working on setting audition times. I'm learnng--it doesn't hurt to ask.
