North Carolina School for the Arts

Can someone tell me what NC ARTS is like on campus? I know it is a small school but are there a lot of activities for the students? Some schools I have looked at seem very cut-throat and competitive. Is NC ARTS this way? Or does the small size encourage the students to become "more like a family" and encouraging of one another? I realize this is the music world and there is always some competition. I am looking at this school for undergrad in vocal performance. I visited on a Friday and the campus was very quiet. I am assuming that there weren't many classes in session. What are the weekends like?
Thanks!!

My son is a grad student at NC School of the Arts, but he knows undergrads there as well. The students he knows say that the school is a terrific community of arts learners. DS reports a very collegial atmosphere there. There are frequent collaborations between departments (music, dance, film, theater) which enriches everyone's learning. I've been to the campus which is nice and compact. Winston-Salem is a terrific town and highly supportive of the arts. My son is an instrumentalist so I don't know about the vocal program there at all. You can PM or email me for more info.

P.S. When did you visit??
