| As long as this thread has been so thoroughly taken over by most of my best friends on CC, I might as well put this here. Daughter completed her first real pro gig this week. She and several other Oberlin Conservatory students were hired to back up the principal flute and harp players from the Cleveland Orchestra for a recording of music by Takemitsu that will be coming out later this year on the Telarc label. The first flicker of light at the end of that tunnel! |

| Wahoo! Great news. That is exciting. How many copies are you buying?
.....And not an accordian in sight, I'll bet. |

| Oh, I expect quite a few will find their way into various Christmas stockings eleven months from now. As far as I know, no accordions. |

| It is nice when the offspring have "professional" CD's, the perfect holiday gift, and it lines the pockets. Somehow it seems like a more gracious gift than a copy of that novel junior has been working on for ages and finally got published. Of course, if JKRowling's mom handed out first editions of her book, there are some pleased folks out there.
Meanwhile, congratulations, great gig! |

| Well, if humor about the procreative habits of framed free-reed aerophones is your thing, you will want to check out the poem Arnold by Les Barker, available at http://www.drweevil.org/?m=200703 |

| Congratulations BassDaughter (is that right??). Can we hear this...maybe on Youtube. They put EVERYTHING (even copyrighted material) on Youtube. Hey...that's where our Garage Band...The Dead Thumpers can perform complete with accordian(s). |

| She has elected not to participate on this forum, although I believe she occasionally reads it to keep track of what I have said to embarrass her lately. I expect to pay richly should she ever be in a position to select a nursing home for me. Anyway, she does not have an official name on CC.
I have not heard any of this music myself and probably will not for some time. The recording sessions have been completed, but they have not even started on the editing and mastering. It may not be available for purchase for several months. I am not going to put it up on Youtube, but that does not mean that it will not eventually be there. |

| Clearly Bassdad's good news has sidetracked us from our more immediate endeavors:
The Deadening Thumps:
Bass guitar / management - Bassdad
Crooning - Thumper and Mythmom
Spooning - Cartera
Backing - Singersmom07
Tracking - Violadad
Accordian - binx
Ukulele - Shennie
Comb and Wax Paper - musicamusica
Dulcimer - edad
Water cannon - Lorelei's S
Bagpipes - Lorelei's friend
Musical Director/Conductor - Lorelei (that means whatever happens is your fault)
Instrumentation needed: Ovation guitar, assorted instruments from Bassdad
Program:
California Dreamin' - Thumper fronting. Mythmom can swing her hair. (Cue reads "Sing along. Stand up.")
Bolero, with accordian solo (Cue reads "Thunderous Applause; Stand up.)
YMCA - (Cue reads, "You're having fun! Stand up!")
1812 Overature, with Lorelei's S and cannon (in D?) (Cue reads "Stand up and duck")
Encore - Amazing Grace - with bagpipe solo, drifting off down the aisles and away. (Cue reads "Long hushed moment of silence, then rousing applause. Stand up. Go home.")
Did I miss anything? We've got a number of folks here who haven't yet signed up. Be warned, if you aren't in it, we expect you to attend. Being in it may be less painful. Oh, and we need someone to write the program notes. |

| Sorry, no Ovation guitars here. We have two Martins, a pair of Yamahas and a Fender electric, plus a few, um, things that qualify as GSO's (Guitar-Shaped Objects) but do not deserve the name guitar. |

| Good thought, violadad, but I think we won't have any sitting ovations. |
