Music Scholarships for Fall 2008...

I am not sure if there is a thread out here regarding Musical Scholarships, but I thought it would be a great idea to list the Musical Scholarships you and/or your child was offered. I know for most schools they don't announce this until Mid- March/Early April, and I am really anxious and prayerful that I am offered a music scholarship.

So my question, can you please post if you or your child received a music scholarship for this coming fall?

My S was offered a Chancellor's Talent Award from UMass Amherst Jazz Studies dept. That was cool!

We too are hopeful that other schools will have money to offer, as we have two other kids in college and grad school!

Strings Magazine Scholarship

I kick myself for not remembering this one earlier, and apologize to those who might have benefited, but the deadline is April 1. Remember it and bookmark it for next year, as it is for hs seniors or matriculated music ed or string (violin, viola, cello or bass) performance majors.

It's one of the few I know of that is not performance competition based or institutionally administered. Personally, I know two past winners.

D was offered $15k a year for Presidential Arts Scholarship at GW (vocal performance)

Also offered an extra $2k a year from American from their music department on top of a $20K a year merit scholarship

Muhlenberg also offered merit money-- awards including Dana scholars, Presidential, art and music/theatre totalled $19K/year

My son was offered the same Presidential Arts Scholarship at GW ($15k/yr), $16K merit from Oberlin, $6K merit from IU Jacobs and $5500 merit from U. Michigan all for violin performance. To think that he was told in September that he wouldn't even get into the top schools!!

Per year: Oberlin $12,000 merit, NEC $12,000 merit, Manhattan School $15,000 merit, Bennington $15,000 merit, Bennington and Harvard very generous financial aid. Conservatory packages included subsidized loans as well as merit aid.

Even with merit aid, the conservatories have proven too expensive for us, for 4 years.

If a college music program is insufficient (for composition), our daughter will transfer to a conservatory later. She really pictured herself at a conservatory, and worked hard to prepare portfolios and do all the auditioning, interviewing, and test-taking required in the conservatory application processes. But she is fine for now, and does not have regrets at all.

Hope this helps someone out there who is considering options for the future.
