The Oscars

There is a bevy of young brilliant Italian composers up for best score (in fact, one just won). Anyone know where they trained?

hi,
i'm italian...and training to become a film composer too!!! ....i just came back from my auditions in USA.....so you can see that a lot of young aspiring composers go away from Italy...
Marco Beltrami that was nominated for "3:10 to Yuma" ...studied a bit privately in Venice and then went to Yale......finished his studies at USC under Jerry Goldsmith.
Dario Marianelli who won for "Atonement" studied until 24 in Pisa privately Composition (was a pianist already) .....and then moved to UK for graduate and then study in a film music school.......(Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Bretton University College and the National Film and Television School.)

hope to be the next one eheheh but around 2025!!!!!!

Ciao!

p.s. there is now specific place to study to become a film composer....i think having a strong background in harmony, counterpoint is good ...and then hope to meet someone in the business

Thank you for the information! I appreciate it! I was very impressed with this very talented group of composers. I look forward to your acceptance speech in 2025

The music in "3:10 to Yuma" was wonderful.

But mostly I am happy for the two who won for the song from "Once".
What a fanastic 'small' movie. We saw it about a week before the oscars on DVD and then were so pleased to see it win for the theme song.

Yes, I will watch for your acceptance speech also!
