"We all know what happened to Charlotte Church who was warbling away classical sop stuff at 12.."

Well, I don't know. What happened to Charlotte Church? Now that you mention it, I haven't heard about her since she was a young teen.

Charlotte Church, lovely girl, but never an opera singer.

She tried to go the pop route when she lost all her top notes but wasn't succesful. She then did one season of a chat show where she sang as well but it was NOTHING like her voice was before. She is now 22 and has just had her first baby.

Ah, Charlotte Church--the perfect example of blowing yourself out way too early. Poor technique in a singer way too young to have been doing what she was doing, and then when she finally got old enough to really be developing the voice, it was shot. Heed the warning!

Thanks for all your replies/advice. My daughter is definitely no Charlotte Church. Her singing has been limited to children's choruses and an occasional school function and voice lessons. Although lessons are scheduled for once a week, it averages to somewhat less than that. She does play piano. She was thinking of doing Interlochen's Intermediate program (grades 6-9) this summer, but decided to do some things closer to home. It will take a few weeks to get appt with ENT scheduled, but I will keep you posted.
