Mannes preparatory division

I just found out my daughter is auditioning this Sunday and she doesn't know yet. We applied late and were originally told she would not audition Sunday but would have to wait for the late audition. So I'm not sure how ready she is. Does anyone know how hard it is to get in.

Mannes prep draws from the same pool as the Juilliard prep program; many students audition at both.

When I auditioned for Mannes Prep, they told us right away after we finished playing if we had been accepted. It was the same for everyone before my audition, too.

Mannes is a lot more relaxed about their preparatory program than Juilliard is, so the theory/solfege exams won't be as intense as at Juilliard, and the program is overall easier to get into. It's still a very good program though with good faculty.

Cosmos, we just got back from Mannes and they didn't tell anyone if they got in. We have to wait 2-3weeks. We were told though that she did well on the music theroy and site singing. So it's just up to the audition. We didn't see any other clarinets(is that good or bad?). There were mostly flutes. I'll keep you posted.

I hope she did well... I suppose they've changed things since I auditioned in 2003!

I don't think it matters that you didn't see any other clarinetists. When I auditioned (and, again, things seem to have changed since then) the same panel heard every instrument, so they might have just scheduled people of the same instrument at different times throughout the day. Or she might have been the only one auditioning! You never know.

Best wishes
