Opera Theater

Hey to all!

Just wondering, any music students that are still lurking on this board, what are your experiences with opera theater? It looks like a lot of fun, kind of like silly/comedia operas. Hehe.
Or operettas (scenes from them, anyways.)
And what school are you from?
Parents can input too! No worries.

It's all new to me so I'm just kind of like hmm I wonder what it will be like.

Jeremy - the term means different things at different schools. At many schools, like Westminster Choir College for example, the Opera Theater does mainstage full dramatic operas too. UNCG includes in its Opera Theater several mainstage operas, a showcase-type production, opera scenes and a production geared towards kids that they perform in the schools. Some schools combine opera and musical theater into Opera Theater and do both dramatic and comedic works, including musical theater and scenes. That is something that appealed to my D too and is what James Madison does - the school she'll be attending.

Jeremy
on Frost's web site it sates:
Each semester Opera Theater presents scenes from operas and full‑length productions with the opera orchestra.

In the lists of requirements for graduation, students take Opera Theater each semester - it is the name of the class (MVP 188 Opera Theater) that teaches performance in opera through scenes or full length productions. You should be able to find a description of that class in the school course guides or listings.
