Re-applying

Is it worth it to re-apply to a school you were rejected from? I graduated from high school back in 2009, and had only auditioned for Ithaca. Now I have completed my AA, a much more impressive resume, and have matured both as an actor and person. I just feel like I have so much more to show them now than I did back then, but is it frowned upon to re-apply?

Absolutely not. However, even though you now have your AA, many of the MT programs would require you to start over as a freshman, possibly a sophomore. Make sure that you come up with a well rounded list of schools to apply to- don't limit it to just Ithica this time around. Good luck!

Yes, I definitely have a nice list including safeties! Back then that wasn't even something that crossed my mind. I have the CC community to thank for teaching me how to set yourself up for a more successful audition process.

I personally am of the opinion that if a school does not want me the first time it is their loss.

By all means, reapply. My D was rejected by one of the top MT schools 2 years ago and ended up working with the head of that particular MT dept this past summer in summer stock - and he said that he had seen a new side of her and that she should consider a transfer, etc. Things change in 2 years, your skills improve and the school will see you as a whole new person.

As most of us here know, applying to MT programs is a totally unique process that is unlike applying to any other major! We already had 2 through college in more "traditional" majors before our D applied to MT programs, but I quickly learned that we had to start the learning process for applying all over again! I am sure you are not the only one who was not as well prepared for the MT application process as you should have been. It sounds like you have really come a long way in the last 2 years. EmyB91, this has been documented in other threads on the Theatre/Drama and here on the MT forum. Because you now have your AA, with college credits under your belt, you may have to apply to colleges as a transfer student, not as a new student, which may affect the difficulty of getting accepted. You should get info from each school your considering and see what their admittance policy is for students who have college credits already.

It seems like most schools require everyone to complete 4 years in their program, but a couple I'm looking at would let me enter as a sophomore. I'm ok with having to start from scratch for a BFA if I manage to get accepted. There are even fewer spots for transfers, but it's worth a shot.

I would take a look at BA MT programs. There are a few out there, such as American, that might accept your transfer credits and let you enter as sophomore or junior.

My D did transfer in to Penn State as a sophomore. Megpmom is also correct that you might have more of a chance transferring to a BA program as a soph. or junior. My D was also accepted to UCLA's BA program and would have transferred there as a junior.
Of all the programs my D applied to as a transfer, only one said they would not accept her based solely on the fact that she was a transfer. As long as you are willing to possibly start over, your chances should be almost as good as a new freshman.
