Anyone have any info on the French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts summer programs? I am particularly interested in their circus training, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has info about ANY of their programs. My daughter is interested in a summer experience; she is a competitive gymnast with a tiny bit of experience with acting, singing, and dancing, and she's trying to find something to put it all together. She's 15, and will have completed her freshman year in high school.

Thanks so much for whatever you can share. Also, any other suggestions for residential, intense, athletic/performance programs would be appreciated!

Letsfigureitout....I think I can help you out. One of my daughters went to French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts for four summers, six weeks per summer. I feel I know the camp very well and would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. A camper can design their own program there and decide what to focus on. They can take three "majors" which they take daily. My daughter was in a musical for one major, dance for another, and waterskiing for another but actually also daily took tennis. Then besides the three majors, you can take three minors which can change daily or not. Many kids are there for theater but many are not. Many are there for the full fledged music program. Actually, my daughter took circus her initial summers there as well. Your daughter, for example, could choose to be in a musical, take circus and gymnastics, or else dance. She designs what she wants to focus on. They put on about 12 full scale musicals and dramas per three week session. Again, a camper doesn't have to be in theater. There is also a dance show every session for those taking dance and full scale concerts for those in music. The circus program puts on a circus show each session and their circus facilities are really great. What is great about FWF is that your D can really put together what she wants to focus on. My D who went there is someone who was very involved in performing arts and sports her entire life and so she was able to be on sports teams at FWF and continue in musicals and in dance (she is also a musician but did not do that at FWF). I could tell you so much more but why don't you ask me what you want to know about. I really recommend the program for someone who is interested in either just the arts or in combining the arts with sports and other activities such as waterfront ones (my D really wanted to do waterskiing and so she was able to get all this there). Let me know how I may help. (this was not my D who is in a BFA in MT program)

Baldwin Wallace also has a one week summer intensive. It is open to rising seniors only since it focuses on preparing for you college auditions. You get lots of personal attention.

I see that a lot of these programs are for current high school students. What if those of us who have graduated aren't going to go to college next year but want to go to a summer program? How might that work out?

freedom_fri911, some programs actually are for college kids as well (like CAP 21, BTP). The application deadline may have passed already, but it may be worthwile checking out.

My D attendend the Triple Threat Summer Intensive at Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN. It is a 2 week day camp with a daily 2 hour MT class and the rest of the focus is on dance. It is very reasonably priced and out of town participants can be housed with a local family with with a nominal contribution to them for food/transportation.
Website is Cumberland County Playhouse, Tennessee's Family Theater. Excellent program.

I would also be interested. I've come across the website several times, but I'm not sure just how credible it is.

Has anyone here heard of the Broadway Artist Alliance (BAA) Summer Intensive? Several friends of my son are going there this summer for a one week intensive instead of a pre-college program.. JW how credible it is?? Cost is ~ $900 plus room and board in NYC. This summer the intensive is being held at Alvin Aliey studios. Thanks for any input.
