My D received confirmation of her Straw Hats audition several days ago. So they are starting to get them out.

MomCares - She mailed it the week the applications were posted on the website. And she booked work through StrawHats last year so that may have helped with them making the decision to give her an audition spot again this year.

D sent her StrawHat stuff a month ago but hasn't gotten any confirmation that they received it. Is this normal, or should she be concerned that they didn't get it?

StrawHat is on a rolling basis as far as I know. Some people will find out more quickly than others.

Do StrawHats or Midwestern auditions have a better reputation, or are they comparable but with different theatres?

I would say that they are comparable with some of the same theatres and some different.

D's says it was processed, gives post-audition tips and offers a DVD of her audition, etc. but no audition date yet that I can see. Will there be more if she's got a slot or is this all for now... or am I missing something?

Ah, thanks! D is always so busy I'm sure she hasn't given this any thought, but I'm interested in how it works.
Are they actually particularly selective about who auditions, or just eliminating those with no significant experience?

They are selective because there are a limited number of slots.

It is selective but, as usual, there is little rhyme or reason as to why someone is or is not chosen to audition. The first year my daughter was admitted to NETC but rejected from Strawhats, last year she was admitted to Strawhats but rejected from NETC even though she received callbacks and was hired at one of those callbacks.
