howard university

i searched the mt threads and found nothing so here goes:
I was looking at Howard University (a traditionally all-black college - I'm white but it's an academically amazing and extremely cheap school and I think I might like to be a minority for once...) and I noticed that they have a musical theater program. The only information I found about it on here is that somegirl Rashad went there and then won a prize for Raisin in the Sun and some other play....so does anyone know anything about Howard University's mt program? let me know, please!

"somegirl Rashad"? That would be Phylicia Rashad who is quite the famous actor. Didn't you ever watch The Cosby Show, mkt? Phylicia and her sister Debbie Allen, also a pretty famous actor as well as choreographer, both are Howard grads. Phylicia was the first African American to win the Tony for Lead Actress in a play, for Raisin in the Sun. She has a BFA in drama (not MT) from Howard.

^^^wow maybe you should reconsider the whole going to a black college thing....no offense but some of the kids might make fun of you in the theater dept. for not knowing who Phylicia rashad or Debbie Allan are...hope you think about a little more than costs and being a minority.

Phylicia Rashad IS a big deal. If I were you, I would consider doing some serious research into African-American and black actors (both on stage and screen) before trying to attend an historically black college such as Howard as a minority.

Okay okay I get it. Thanks for your...constructive? criticism. I don't know actors at all - I doubt I could name more than five actors/actresses on Broadway - AND I wouldn't be majoring in mt, maybe minoring, so I don't think it would be as huge as you guys make it. If nothing else, I would be ignorant about all actors and not just black actors:-P
I was more hoping for anyone who knew anything about Howard as a school. At the moment I'm not seriously considering it, I'm only a Junior and just beginning to think about schools, I just wondered if anyone knew anything about its mt program.

^^howard is an ok school...probably the best HBCU (Historically Black College/University) in the country and the theater dept. is actually pretty good. They do good productions there and it's a solid program. You may have an advantage because not many ppl audition for howard. Check it out on the webpage.
