I'll be doing Kismet, Millie, Joseph, Aida, and 1776 at Surflight in NJ this summer. I got the job out of Strawhats and it was my top choice, so I'm thrilled! Any info on theatre anyone?

Congrats Brendan. LBI is a great place to spend the summer. We saw jasmom's son in a show at Surflight last summer. Maybe she could put you in touch with him if you have any questions.

Thanks! I'm really excited, but a little scared for this summer. If nothing else, it'll be an incredible learning experience. I just hope I don't wipe myself out before sophomore year, when performing is finally allowed. I start classes the day after my last performance at Surflight....should be crazy.

Boy, am I clueless!

I'll be the first to admit, I have no clue about Summer Stock! Is there a page on this site devoted to it or a site anyone can recommend where I can read up? Also, can someone explain to me what "equity points" are? This is all so new to me! TIA

read up on pg 1 about summer stock..

to be an equity member in theatre is basically to be a member of a workers union. so if you are equity then you can only do equity shows and receive professional wages. that is the basics..i am sure that there is much more about it that maybe others could share.

"equity points" are simply points you earn through doing shows or working backstage i believe for an equity theatre. and once you reach a certain amount of points you are given ur equity card

Just wanted to let longtime CC readers know that samia525, who is a soph. transfer at Boco and was a regular poster here last year when she was auditioning (she is from Korea and had been cut from Arizona), found out yesterday she was hired by the MUNY in St. Louis!!!! She'll be doing LES MIZ and PAJAMA GAME with them and getting her Equity Card! She's quite the "comeback" success story!

Yay for Samia! I am so happy for her and proud of her. Coach, please pass along our good wishes and tell her that those of us who followed her journey last year are not at all surprised at this success. She was not only obviously talented, but also had a spirit and tenaciouness that were admirable. Wish we lived closer to St. L, so we could go see her for ourselves. Coach, do you know what roles she will be playing? Not that it matters .... it's just great news.

Congrats to all!

BrendanN - Surflight is a great theatre. They do work hard. We usually see at least one show a summer as we spend some of the season on LBI. Most recently we've seen students from Ithaca, BoCo, etc do very well in their mainstage shows. I'm sure our son will try to see a show with us this year. He's concentrating on opportunities closer to home for the summer. Have fun - maybe we'll see you!

Excellent news for Samia - going by her songs last year she is a great performer and I'm sure this is the first of many professional successes!
