The theater in Granbury is moving to Fredericksburg, Texas, but I just heard that another group is taking over in their place, so there are still two theaters there. One does a Branson-style music revue and the other puts on broadway musicals and plays. Granbury is a great place to visit. Very small town, but it's what all small towns around here (mine included) aspire to be. Their downtown historic area is thriving.

The Granbury Opera House is now under the managment of the Galveston Island Musicals... this arrangement began last spring. Most actors cast by Galveston/ Granbury get the opportunity to perform at both the Granbury Opera House and the Galveston Island Musicals at the San Luis in Galveston.

My D is still in HS so I don't know if this appropriate. But she is thrilled to death. She will be in the ensemble for HS Musical and working as dance captain/assistant to the choreographer for Jersey Productions in N. Kentucky. It is a new company (2nd year) and the auditions were considerable more competitive with many MT students from three of the area MT programs at call backs with her.
She loves the fact that have cast her and that she will be able to work closely with professional choreographer.

keepingcalm - Congratulations! That's great news and of course appropriate to post. Wonderful to have on her resume for college, too, besides the terrific experience she'll gain.

keepingcalm...that is wonderful news! That is great for a high schooler and will be a terrific experience for her, let alone be great on her resume.

My D was cast in as a teen in Grease, PJ Game and Lee Miz at the St. Louis MUNY, but then she received her first equity job! She is very excited. She will be in Grease at the St. Louis MUNY To get paid doing something you love - who could ask for anything more.

2BRN2B...congratulations to your daughter! It will be a great experience and a very good credit as well. My D's close friend is in those shows too and so I am sure they'll meet. He is already in college and two years older than your D....so not cast as a "teen". I'm not sure his roles in each show but I THINK he may be Doody in Grease.

My D was also cast as a teen in those three shows (Grease, PJ Game, and Les Mis) @ MUNY...but she was very excited when she found out that she was cast as an equity cast member of Grease along with 2BRN2B's D this summer...we are so happy for her! Right now we are in the process of deciding if she should take her equity card or not? If you have any suggestions or information if you could PM me that would be great! Thanks so much!

Momof2006 --

My daughter REALLY wants to do the Disney program. She's been a Disney nut forever. Please check back once in a while and let us know how she liked it. Will she have a performance-related job?

Thanks,
Jersey

Maybe this is a dumb question--But does summerstock pay? If so, how much? We live in Cherry Hill, so LBI theatre would be great for next year (this year wouldn't have worked). Thanks!

Raphael, I am from Cherry Hill! I was there earlier this month.

As far as summerstock paying, there are LOTS of variations when it comes to summerstock. Some pay a stipend. Some pay a low salary. Some are Equity and pay a lot. So, it depends on the theater. In a general sense, for a lot of the non Equity jobs (which may be AT an Equity theater), it is more the experience and hopefully the pay at least covers the expenses of summer. Some summer stock jobs offer housing, some don't. Some refer to college aged students who are hired, as "interns". So, you have to check it out at all theaters. A lot of times, a kid could earn more by taking a regular summer job, than by doing summer stock. So, summer stock is more for the experience. Sometimes, a kid doing summer stock can come out ahead and earn money beyond expenses, sometimes not. That depends on the theater and the contract.

Here's a question that might merit a separate thread...assuming you become fortunate enough that you get the equity card during a summer before you actually graduate. Obviously positive for the long term, but what implications might that have for any other summers before graduating? Are you then limited to auditioning for equity shows? If not I guess you'd be limited to theatres willing to honor the equity contract. You are competing with other equity actors.

Anything else?

WMonMTDad, try to do a search as this topic has been discussed a bunch here in the past. Try different key words, like "Equity card" or "summer stock".
