Any info on Stephens College for MT?

I just had an acting coach here in Minneapolis tell me about Stephens College. She had done some work with their summer stock theater in Iowa last summer and was very impressed with the students she met. Apparently they offer a BFA that is completed in 3 years and 2 summers.
Anyone here on CC familiar with the school?

from what I heard when I talked to admissions about theatre, they didn't have a BFA for musical theatre. I was dissapointed as well. Though I heard there were alot of opportunities for musicals. hope that helps!

Stephens College BFA

According to their website, Stephens offers a BFA in Theatre Arts within which it is possible to have an emphasis on musical theatre, but not an actual degree in musical theatre.

Anyone on the board know someone who's studied/studying there?

Well, this might not count (actually, it definitely doesn't), but my mom (now deceased) graduated from Stephens with a degree in opera performance, and she always contended she got a fantastic education. She was going to study in Europe upon graduation (some kind of program) but fell in love and got married to my dad instead.

When my daughter was applying for college, her vocal teacher highly recommended Stephens College. She had gone there as a vocal major and felt it was a good program. It was very interesting in that the students are the performers in their summer stock theater in Iowa, and yes, graduate in three years because of their summer experience. The school was wonderful to deal with, had offered my daughter a very nice scholarship for performance, but my daughter ultimately decided on another school. Hope this helps somewhat.

divasmom, glad to know it is still a great program. My mom talked a lot about how hard she struggled with having to study Italian, French and German (especially German!) as an opera major, but how important it was to her. We still have some old recordings of her somewhere singing "Ave Maria" and various operas. Of course, now that she is gone, I find myself wishing I had asked more questions .....
