Maryland beat Rutgers last week, and Cincinnati beat them yesterday. It's been a rough couple of weeks for the Scarlet Knights.

Actually, musical theatre programs. But thanks for the update. My dad's an alum, so he appreciates it.

I don't believe they offer a degree in MT - there is a BA in theater that is a non-audition program. I'm sure they do a musical during the year and there is probably a MT workshop, but the degree is very broad based theater. They do have one of the best music departments in the country but it is has a lot of MM and DMA students.

Edited to add - this post is about UMD

Rutgers does not offer a degree in musical theater. The theater department is very strong and a difficult admit. Music department is good, very strong graduate musicians. There is an "amateur" musical theater at RU, does four productions a year, totally student run: http://www.rultc.org/home.htm
The shows are quite good. Most casts include performers who go on to professional careers. Some are drama or music majors, but many are not.

If you are in the BFA conservatory at Rutgers through Mason Gross there are not really any MT opportunities. You are discouraged (or possibly prohibited) from participating in musicals on campus outsaide of Rutgers. Years ago, when I auditioned at Rutgers I was told I would not have time to tke dance or voice lessons outside.

Maryland has a great new arts center. They do not offer MT, but do do a musical. I am going to see their production of Urinetown this weekend. I will let you know how it is.
